Professional Biography

Dr. James Mitchell is a pioneer in therapeutic Botox applications for dental and TMJ patients, serving as the Lead Instructor for TMJ and Therapeutics at Facial Injectables. With 18 years of specialized experience in orofacial pain management, he has helped transform the way dental professionals approach temporomandibular disorders and chronic jaw pain.

Dr. Mitchell earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, consistently ranked among the top dental schools in the nation. He then completed an advanced fellowship in orofacial pain at the UCLA Orofacial Pain Center, one of only a handful of accredited programs in the country, followed by a second fellowship in dental sleep medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

This dual-fellowship training makes Dr. Mitchell one of fewer than 200 dentists in the United States with advanced credentials in both orofacial pain and dental sleep medicine. His unique combination of expertise allows him to teach a holistic approach to TMJ management that addresses not only the pain and dysfunction associated with temporomandibular disorders but also the sleep-disordered breathing conditions that frequently co-occur with them.

Dr. Mitchell has published extensively on neurotoxin therapy for orofacial pain management, with over 30 peer-reviewed publications in journals including the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the Journal of Dental Research, and Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology. His TMJ injection protocols, developed through years of clinical research and refinement, are now used by practitioners across the country and have helped thousands of patients find relief from chronic jaw pain and headaches.

In his role at Facial Injectables, Dr. Mitchell leads all TMJ-related courses, from foundational injection therapy to advanced multi-modal treatment protocols. His teaching style emphasizes evidence-based practice and patient selection, ensuring that graduates understand not only how to perform therapeutic injections but also when they are most appropriate. He is a passionate advocate for expanding the role of dental professionals in pain management and regularly speaks at dental conferences about the transformative potential of neurotoxin therapy in dentistry.
